Instead of continually worrying about improving battery tech, we just run trolley lines!

Bad bit, people generally don’t want to see trolley lines everywhere.

So, why not a hybrid solution.  A car that runs mostly on Trolley line energy (say for highway stretches, and the like) and then has a small battery reserver to move between lines!
